NSW: HSC results to be opened today

SYDNEY, Dec 19 AAP - Higher School Certificate (HSC) results will be released todaybut Education Minister John Watkins has urged disappointed students not to be too disheartened.

Some 64,805 students across the state will be able to access their results on the internetor by phone from 6am (AEDT) today.

But if the results were not up to the mark, Mr Watkins said all was not lost.

"Tomorrow is the biggest day in the NSW education calendar, the long wait is over for65,000 students, their parents, teachers and their extended families," Mr Watkins toldreporters yesterday.

"For those students that don't achieve what they had hoped for or what they expected, don't be too disheartened, there are many pathways to success, there are many alternatives.

"If you don't get what you want to achieve and you are despondent and you are upset, talk to someone about it."

The Department of Community Services (DOCS) also urged parents to continue supportingtheir children as they grappled with options and tried to plan for the future.

"A student's private expectations of what they should have achieved may well be shatteredbut parents should listen to their concerns and be helpful with suggestions about otherstudy and career options," DOCS director of research and parenting, Associate ProfessorJune Wangmann said.

Students can access their HSC results on a special web page at www.hscresults.nsw.edu.auor by phoning the automated telephone service on 1902 220 100.
