MIDEAST CEASE-FIRE STILL HOLDS.(MAIN)

JERUSALEM -- Despite a deadly Palestinian attack the day before, Israeli Foreign Minister Shimon Peres said Friday that a relative fall in the level of violence meant there were real prospects of a meeting soon with Palestinian leader Yasir Arafat.

Palestinians reported eight stone throwers hurt in clashes with Israeli troops near the West Bank town of Ramallah, seven by rubber bullets and one by live rounds. The military said Palestinians fired three mortar shells at a Jewish settlement in the Gaza Strip.
